Breakfast Of Course’s bewitching dishes will have you floating
There is food, and then there is food, the kind of substance that you wake up wanting. The kind of dish that you walk around dreaming about, hungry for nothing else. Maybe you think I’m exaggerating. Maybe you haven’t had one of Mary Haglund’s breakfast burritos.
She’s Winston-Salem’s good witch of comfort food, and she can put a spell on you….
Crackling hot polenta fries with a fiery smoked chile aioli, and maple bacon ice cream made locally by Blue Ridge Ice Creams. What else would you want to eat after a night pub-crawling on Trade Street?….
To ensure your daily recommended allowance of cheese, order the Crispy Madame. It’s a terrific take on the croque-madame, a French sandwich. Fistfuls of Black Forest ham and Swiss cheese are tightly wedged between buttery slabs of sourdough. The whole thing is finished off with a gently fried egg and a buttery Cacio de roma cheese sauce. You will try not to eat all of it, but you’re likely to fail….
The sunny-side-up egg on the burger is a stroke of genius…..

“…The service and food have maintained their comfort and flavor. My favorite omelet hit the spot, thus maintaining its winning streak.”

BOC on Facebook

Mary was Facebooking and found several places posting things about BOC.
The MyBridges.net website recently wrote up BOC on Facebook with some pictures and the text; “Mary’s of Course has evolved into the new Breakfast of Course at the end of Trade Street downtown. We love it for being a melting pot of food magic, diversity, and a Om point for Community Bridge Building.”
And then the Local Dish Blog has had several postings with pics of favorite dishes and text like Even though the new Breakfast Of Course! (Mary’s Too) has only been open a week, it appears that her flock is, well, flocking to the new restaurant on Trade Street.”

Food, Inc.
Published by Breakfast Of Course
BOC proudly donated a salad to the Neighbors For Better Neighborhoods screening of the documentary FOOD, INC on June 8th 2010. Having seen it previously on PBS, Mary felt the message exposing our ignorance of how corporations produce cheap, chemically laden food was an important eye-opener. The salad was made of mixed greens & micro-greens from a local Pfafftown farm, goat cheese from Laurel Ridge, mint from Mary’s own garden, pecans, dates and orange sections with a honey-lime-mint dressing (made from local honey and mint from Mary’s garden). She also invited raw food chef Tricia (known to most as Nutricia), who brought several raw, vegan, organic, gluten free dishes (vegetable chili with cashew nut ’sour cream’, white chocolate lemon bars and her delicious veggie wraps). We enjoyed the opportunity to support our community, and hope this kind of event will get the word out about Neighbors For Better Neighborhoods and the importance of knowing how you’re casting a vote every time you buy something to eat.
