Southern Biscuit Success!

Southern Biscuit Success!

The 6 Days In November with Natalie Dupree:  a great success!

As the packed room of attendees can attest, there’s plenty of interest in Southern Biscuit making. Ms. Dupree gave an insightful demonstration of her technique and then spent a gracious amount of time answering any and all questions.
Many inquiries involved the fine details of achieving the proper balance of fluffiness, crispiness  or density.  Ms. Dupree answered them all with a straightforward Southern charm that enticed and enlightened.
Afterward  Ms. Dupree signed any of her 11 cookbooks for fans old and new.  Many enjoyed her personal words of encouragement and took the opportunity to pose with a celebrity chef.  Miniature biscuits were provided by Mary with country ham from Ronnie’s Country Store. Thanks to Carroll Leggett for his tireless efforts ion making this event a success.

A great turnout Winston! We think this bodes well for future events involving the culinary arts!

The Irrepressible…

Here’s one from March 2010. Mary and the irrepressible Phil Hanes. He and Charlotte came by to give BOC their seal of approval and fill our heads with ideas; past present and future. We miss Phil’s ravenous spirit and indomitable heart.

Word Wall Public Art Project @ BOC

This is a video explaining the glass quilt of words, each created by the youth in the Authoring Action program led by renowned local artist Jan Detter. The border of the quilt will feature the names of each person or company in the community who sponsors the work. A unique permanent community arts piece, which will be installed on the exterior wall facing Trade Street at the new Breakfast Of Course restaurant in the downtown Arts District.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to support our community’s youth and connect with the art on Trade Street, at the  Authoring Action Word Wall.

This Project will be unveiled during Gallery Hop on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 6:30pm at Breakfast Of Course.

Breakfast Of Course’s bewitching dishes will have you floating

There is food, and then there is food, the kind of substance that you wake up wanting. The kind of dish that you walk around dreaming about, hungry for nothing else. Maybe you think I’m exaggerating. Maybe you haven’t had one of Mary Haglund’s breakfast burritos.

She’s Winston-Salem’s good witch of comfort food, and she can put a spell on you….

Crackling hot polenta fries with a fiery smoked chile aioli, and maple bacon ice cream made locally by Blue Ridge Ice Creams. What else would you want to eat after a night pub-crawling on Trade Street?….

To ensure your daily recommended allowance of cheese, order the Crispy Madame. It’s a terrific take on the croque-madame, a French sandwich. Fistfuls of Black Forest ham and Swiss cheese are tightly wedged between buttery slabs of sourdough. The whole thing is finished off with a gently fried egg and a buttery Cacio de roma cheese sauce. You will try not to eat all of it, but you’re likely to fail….

The sunny-side-up egg on the burger is a stroke of genius…..
